Emote

Slicing onions
to cover and coat
tear-stained neck
ragged, chapped throat
sharp edged freak
missed the boat
can't close her eyes
throws the remote
splashes the sink
watches it float

not one little word,
on the list he wrote -

a million lifetimes
no need to emote,
laughs futile irony
soft scent of his coat,
loses her mind
in the ink on the note,

all it said  -

we need milk,
and bread.
